Passports – Can I use my Deed Poll when I go abroad?

Yes, you can use your Deed Poll abroad to provide proof of your change of name, however, you may need to have it witnessed by a solicitor or Notary Public, and you may also need to have it legalised; it will depend on the requirements of the body/organisation abroad that you wish to provide your Deed Poll to.

Please remember that a Deed Poll does not replace a passport for the purposes of crossing over into another country, and you must always ensure that your passport, travel tickets, insurance, visas and other travel documents are in the same name.  If they are not all in the same name, you may be refused entry onto your aeroplane or have difficulties with border control authorities and customs.

For further information, please go to the Deed Poll Information list at the top left of this page, and click on “Certified/Legalised/Duplicate Copies”, “Passports” and “Who Do I Tell?”
