Kirk Douglas was born with the name Issur Danielovitch. Issur is a famous Jewish name, most notably Rabbi Issur Zalman Meltzer.
Kirk changed his name as he felt that with such a Jewish sounding name it would be difficult for him to make a good career in the Hollywood film industry.
Was he right? We'll never know!
